I am heartbroken to have report I was unable to summit last night. Approaching camp 2 at 20000 ft (where the summit push would start from to 22500 ft ), I was negotiating a final traverse over a 2000 ft sheer face and twisted my ankle. I got up at 11 pm, but after strapping my boots and crampons on it was clear my ankle was not going to stand up to the 16 hour day ... and 10 the next day back to BC.. a few tears later I bid farewell to Paul Harwood and wished him Gods speed. Thanks to the assistance of 2 Sherpas I am now safely in BC (we followed down a Korean climber whose friend fell to his death after their summit, which brings things into perspective). Thank you for all the support - despite the flu I felt strong and felt I could have made it .... never give up ....
