The Asian Trekking Eco-Everest expedition was a combination of several independent teams (1-2 climbers each). Asian Trekking provided transportation, base camp facilities and various levels of high altitude support (oxygen, high-altitude porters, tents, etc) as required and contracted for by each team. The individual accounts for each team are given below:

Team left C4 at 10 pm on 21 May. Weather was fine with 15 mph winds. Summited at 10:30 am, stayed 30 minutes, then descended to C4 arriving at 4 pm.

Paul Ling (Australia)

Term: Abandoned at 7900m due to AMS and chest infection.

Ling and Sonam started from C3 at 5 am, reaching their high point just below South Col at 4 pm (~7900m). During their ascent it was quite warm, but the wind picked up in the afternoon. As his mask and regulator were defective, Ling climbed without oxygen. He had been climbing for 11 hours and was exhausted, and they ran out of water. He had also suffered from a chest infection and threw up several times during the expedition and was in a rather weak physical condition. They turned around before South Col and got back to C3 at 11:30 pm.

Next day Ling descended to BC. A doctor diagnosed AMS and gave him Diamox.

Saray Khumalo (S Africa)

Term: Abandoned at 8700m due to frostbite on all fingers and AMS.

On 22 May Khumalo with her Sherpa ascended to C4 and started summit push in the night. At 11 pm they set off from C4. It was very windy, Khumalo got frostbitten, she could hardly put one foot after another. Near South Summit they decided to go back to C4 and try again the next day. Going back, Khumalo lost consciousness just before C4. On 24 May she and her Sherpa went down from C4 to C2. On 25 May Khumalo was rescued by helicopter from C2 to Kathmandu.
