While Smith and Lopez were in C2 on their summit rotation Ang Phurba fell to his death in the Lhotse Couloir on 19 May. The expedition lost momentum and they decided to abandon their climb on 22 May. Descended to BC on 22 May.
Kosztelny reached C2 on 29 April during the first rotation. He left BC on 8 May due to business matters at home.
