Schmitz and Holder reached their high point in the Icefall during an acclimatization climb. When the earthquake occurred Schmitz was in his tent and Holder had flown to Lukla on 24 April as he had not been feeling well and tried to recover there. Holder never came back to BC and Schmitz spent 13 days at BC after the quake to clean up and take down his camp.
