Castineyra felt weak from the very beginning of the expedition. He had a bad cough and was struggling. He also said that he had problems with his Sherpa and he did not feel assisted by him. When he reached C3 on 23 May on his summit attempt, he found that there was no tent for him. Thankfully he found a space in someone else's tent.

He spent the night at C3, but abandoned his summit attempt as he was not feeling well. He descended to ABC the following day.
