The team arrived at BC on 11 April. On the 14th 21 Sherpas carried loads to C1 and three days later carried 21 more loads to C2. Then on the 18th the fatal avalanche struck Sherpas in the Icefall. No members moved above BC except on the 18th Crampton, Harris and Kay went up from BC into the Icefall to join six of their Sherpas in the rescue effort. They recovered body parts.

Crampton was very reluctant to cancel the climb, and his Sherpas were willing to resume the climb, but after threats were made by some agitating Sherpas, Crampton capitulated and called it off on the 25th. His members left BC in helicopters on the 26th and 27th; Crampton himself flew out on the 30th.

Crampton said he knew the names on only two of the Sherpas who were pressing for all the climbers to leave the mountain immediately. They were one with the Jagged Globe team (Pasang Tenzing, 1/10/84, Beding) and one who was climbing as usual with the Adventure Consultants group, Pasang Bhote from Makalu area (there are two who climb with this company and it was not immediately clear which was on the mountain this time).

It is notable that no Khumbu Sherpas were involved in organizing the movement, which can be called a strike for lack of a better term. Some of the largest commerical teams, like IMG employ only Khumbu men.

Pasang Tenzing from Beding, Rolwaling, is a UIAA candidate member who was boasting about it and aggressively claiming to be all-knowing. If any action is to be taken again these agitators, Pasang Tenzing's UIAA membership candidature could be cancelled.
