The expedition arrived at BC on 10 April, had their puja the next day, and on the 13th all members except Kee Yo Dwe walked to the site for ABC's below Pumori's SE Face. On the 14th, members were given training at the start of the Icefall. The day after that, the team's 12 Sherpas carried loads to C1's site at 5800m. The 16th and 17th were rest days, and on the 18th the 12 Sherpas carried more loads up from BC to C2's site at 6300m and returned to BC. (No one from this team slept in C1 or C2).

The fatal avalanche struck Sherpas in the Icefall on the 18th. Rippel declared the expedition was abandoned on 22 April, and seven members left BC on the 25th. Rippel and three more members flew from Lukla to Phaplu in a helicopter on 2 May, and on the 3rd they took a Jeep to Kathmandu in a rough 15-hour ride.

In the meantime, Kee Yo Dwe had gotten altitude sickness at BC on 13 April, went to the clinic at BC that day and was put on oxygen; he was evacuated to Kathmandu on the 14th.

One of the team's Sherpas, Mingma Tenzing (born 30/6/87) from Namche Bazar, also died of altitude sickness. He got sick in BC and died on 2 April in Kathmandu.
