The team made steady progress up the NW Ridge, pitching four camps along the ridge until five members and two Sherpas reached a small summit at 6500m on 5 November in their bid to reach the main summit. They were Baillie, Blanc, Ernst, Gaillic and Hiriart with Jangbu Sherpa and Dhan Bahadur Magar.
They had left C3 at 6100m for the top at 8:00 am on 5 November and took five hours to reach 6500m (at 1:00 pm), the normal site for C3. Then they gave up their summit attempt because of the waist-deep snow.
They retreated to C3, where they arrived at 3:00 pm, and slept there that night. Then on the 6th the team descended by a different line from their ascent route: they came down the south face of the NW Ridge to the Congli Glacier at 5600m, where they made their final camp.
On the 7th they left the mountain and trekked to Phu village.
