The Belgians established C3 at 7,500 m on 5 May and then went down to BC for a rest and to acclimatize to Khumbu's altitude.

They returned to C3 on 18 May and planned to sleep for one night there, go back to C2 for one night, again to go up to C3 for a night, move upto C4 and go for the summit.

But they got to sleep in C3 because both members had altitude sickness and his teammate Artinopoulos was seriously dehydrated. They again went down to C2 hoping to find medical help for Artinopoulos there, but there was none to be found. They decided not to take any risk, descended to BC and abandoned the climb.
