Arciaga's original plan was:

(1) come back alive
(2) reach 8000m
(3) reach the summit

Once he realised as difficult it was to breath in high altitude (mostly with an old Russian mask) and that the Lhotse West Face normal route was rather more technical than Everest, even in a good shape, he decided to cancel goals 3 and 2 for completing 1.

They left BC, went back to Kathmandu for two days and then went trekking in Ganesh Himal for two weeks.
