Approach: Biratnagar, Tumlingtar, Num, Seduwa, Tashigaon, Kongma, Yangla Kharka, Makalu Lower BC

Matsumoto and Pema Sherpa started their summit bid from C4 at 9 pm on 21 May. When they arrived at about 8200m at 4:30 am on 22 May, they found that there were no fixed ropes. Then they descended C2. Next day 23 May they went down to BC. The summit push day weather was reasonably good, but on descending it became very bad. Matsumoto was told that Seven Summit Treks would fix the line on the route, but they did not do it. The team of Asian Trekking started fixing ropes, but they ran out of ropes.
