On 23rd of April, Azim with Yang Chun-Feng, Liu Xiang-Yang, David Abramczyk plus 3 Sherpas: Dendi Sherpa, Pechhumbe Sherpa and a third one (Abramczyk's one) started at 2:30 pm from C2 for a summit push.

On the 24th of April, he with Yang, Liu and Dendi Sherpa after climbing all night summited 9:30 am, then descended back to Makalu La at C2. Azim Gheichisaz preceeding his 3 other teammates on descent, did not see the accident of Liu. He slept that night at C2 where he arrived at 8 pm.

On the 25th he was back to ABC, then on the 27th to Hillary BC. On the 30th of April, he was helicoptered with other teammates (Yang, Vickers, Aschwanden and Celikovic) back to Kathmandu.

Azim climbed without oxygen or Sherpa support all the way along, considered as very strong by all other climbers on the mountain.
