Martin and Vercheil were part of the Extreme Everest Research team. They had bought a Lhotse permit just in case they would have time to do it. However, their research took too much time and when Vercheil found out that his stepfather was unwell in South Africa, he had to leave early. Martin also decided to abandon expedition. So they only went to C1 for fun on 7 May.
