We left for the summit of Ama Dablam at 5.15am, Sange first, then RC on the fixed rope, then Lydia, then Roman and last, Kami Rita.

Once we got around the funky shapes of the last bit of the Mushroom Ridge and up on top of the biggest Mushroom where old Camp three used to be, we felt the keenness of the wind. It was still dark but not for long, the sky lighting up gradually and presenting an impressive ridge line of jagged mountain shapes encircling us, except for the headwall above us.

The climb of the snow and ice headwall of Ama Dablam took about 3 hours. We arrived on the summit between 3-3.5 hours after leaving the high camp. All the way up Kami hung out behind Roman, as Roman was initially struggling a bit (we all were!).

Once on the main summit we had a great gathering and sit down and drank hot chocolate from thermoses. After gaining our breath we followed Sange to a small rise, still on foxed ropes, where a few prayer flags were afixed, and there we could see Everest RIGHT in our faces, Lhotse & Lhotse Shar, Nupste, Baruntse, Makalu, and in the distance Kangchenjunga the queen massif alone out West. What an amazing view from 6865m!

...That evening we made it all the way down from the summit to camp 2.7, 6250m, ate food and drank tea, then the Sherpas collected tha tents and carried our sleeping bags and we carried other stuff like down trousers, big gloves, a stove and fuel, etc and started the descent to camp one, 5800m.
