Hoglin was an independent climber, had no Sherpa helpers or oxygen supply, and made no C3.

He made his summit bid from C2 at 7700m on 23 May at 6:40 pm (Chinese time). It snowed all that night, but he managed to climb up to 8450m at 2:30 am the next morning, the 24th. Then he decided that he was getting too tired to continue. He returned to C2 at 8:10 am and went on down to C1 the same day. He was back in ABC on the 25th and BC on the 26th.
