Nasman and Phurba Namgyal left C1 at 10 am (NST). When they reached 7400m at about 4 pm, Nasman was too tired to carry on to C2. He had not really been eating well and had been suffering from a stomach bug.

Phurba Namgyal had told him that it would be another three hours to C2, so they sat down and discussed what to do. They decided to descend to C1 and abandon the expedition as Nasman had run out of steam. Nasman used oxygen to go down to C1, where they arrived at about 7 pm. On 23rd May, they descended to ABC.
