The team's efforts to get very high on the mountain collapsed in the face of health problems for Sherpas and members alike. In the end, there was no one left standing except Roy.
The more experienced Sherpa, Thukten Dorji, never went above ABC, where he had developed a chest infection on 7 May. Their other and less experienced Sherpa, Ngima, got altitude sickness in C2 on the 13th.
Gadbois had been taking a walk killing time while waiting for Ngima to join him that morning with oxygen and for them to go up to set up C3. When he learned that Ngima was sick, he gave up the idea of going higher. He tried to descend to C1, but had to stop at a Dutch team's tent in C1.5, which he knew would be empty, because of diarrhea, and now he was becoming aware of the frostbite in his fingers (they had become frostbitten on 10 May while he was climbing on his way from C1 to C2).
Cousineau had gone up to C2 on 12 May using oxygen because she was too tired to reach the camp without it. She made no attempt to go higher.
That left Roy the only climber to try to go above C2 (Filippi, the leader, never went above BC). Roy ascended 200 meters, then he also abandoned the attempt, and the climb was over. All were back in ABC by the 15th.
