Devy and Thupen Dorje left C3 (7200m) at 10:30 pm on 8 May in their bid to go the summit. They climbed to 7600m at 3:30 am on the 9th, but now Thukten Dorje did not want to go higher despite the fact that the weather was perfect without any wind. They had little sleep during the previous night when fierce winds battered their tent.

Thupen Dorje had by now lost all motivation to go higher. Devy said he could not go up alone, so they returned to C3 at 4:30 am, rested there, then Thukten Dorje descend to C1 while Devy went all the way down to ABC.

Their climb was finished.
