Baden Powell Scout Peak - Finnish 2010 Expedition led by Jossi Tapio Nummelin

The group left Kathmandu on 20 March and drove to Nepal Scouts camp at Kakani on a hill on the northwestern edge of the Kathmandu Valley. After two days activities there, they were taken by road to Syabru Besi, then trekked eastward along the Langtang Khola to Lama Hotel, Langtang village, and Kyanjin Kharka and Gompa at 3900m, where they made their base camp on 29 March.

The next day, the 30th, they trekked up to their high camp at 4987m. from high camp on 1st April the summit party scaled the North Face. The top (5890m) was reached by six Finnish members, Haavikko, Mulari, Pietarinen, Pitualainen, Tarashal and Valta, plus a Nepalese Narest Maharjan and six Sherpas, Gomba, Greemen, Ngawang, Phurba Pasang, Sona and Yugel Tenduk. (Naresh, Ngawang and Phurba Pasang had already summited Baden Powell in the autumn of 2007.)

The summit party spent the night of the 1st at high camp, went back to BC at Kyanjin Gompa on the 2nd, and the team left BC on the 3rd to trek back to Lama Hotel. On the 4th they returned to Syabru Besi and on the 5th of April they were driven from Syabru Besi to Kathmandu and then to their hotel in Bhaktapur.

During the climb, one Finish member, Ojala, developed pulmonary edema. He was evacuated to Kathmandu on 3 April by a helicopter, which picked him up from a spot in the Langtang Valley between Langtang village and Lama Hotel. The leader told the tourism ministry that there should be one camp between the Gompa and high camp in order for the climbers to acclimatize properly.
