BC at Tangnag Lodge
Biv1 on rock buttress on south side.
The two Britons established their base on 22 October at lodge in the village of Tangnag for their climb of Kyashar, which is south of Kangtega; but before attacking their mountain, they went to Mera Peak for acclimatization. Houseman summited it on 28 October while Stone stopped at their high camps because of a headache.
They were back in BC on the 29th. They ewre delayed by snowfall; they started their climb of Kyashar on 3 November up a rock buttress on the south side of their mountain. (Kyashar's name is not shown on various maps, but it is point 6769m on the NEPA trekking map; the Nepalese government gives it an altitude of 6770m). They bivoaucked that night at 5500m on a hanging glacier at the top of the buttress.
On 4 November, they moved up to the top of the glacier at 5700m and then to the bottom of the South Pillar, the feature they intended to scale. They had reached 5800m when Stone declared that he didn't want to continue the climb: this was his first time in the Himalaya, and he was uncomfortable with the scale of these mountains; he also appeared to be developing an altitude problem.
Houseman doesn't like climbing alone, so they descended to BC the same day and left for Kathmandu on the 5th.
