On 22 September C2 was occupied by 16 members (all members except Albrecht and Sanchez, who had left earlier) and all eight climbing Sherpas. They returned to ABC on the 23rd to wait for good weather following a period of heavy snowfall, but the slopes were loaded with snow, as nine Sherpas learned on the 27th, when an avalanche hit them. The attempt to scale Cho Oyu was abandoned on the 29th.

Albrecht and Sanchez were the two members who left early. They developed cerebral and pulmonary edema, respectively, and used oxygen before departing on 15 and 16 September, respectively.
