Deragisch stayed in BC throughout the climbing period because of altitude problems. That left two members, the Crameri brothers, and their two Sherpas to make the climb. They didn't stay long.

The two members and the two Sherpas, Dendi and Pemba Norbu, on 20 October went up from C1 to the site for C2 at 6400m. Marco Crameri and Dendi turned around and went back to C1 because they found the snow too deep to continue without any fixed ropes in place above C2: no one had made the route. Arnold Crameri and Pemba Norbu continued up to have a look and then they too returned to C1. What they had seen was not encouraging.

Back in BC, they discussed what to do next. Pemba Norbu recommended waiting for the next team's Sherpas to arrive and all Sherpas then to fix rope together. But the next team to turn up was Ms Melissa Arnot, American, and when her only Sherpa, Chhuwang Nima, had a fatal fall on 23 October, the Swiss left the mountain.

They wanted to continue climbing, so they went to Island Peak. (The Crameris and both Sherpas had already scaled Mera Peak on 13 October enroute to Baruntse BC, Deragisch had stopped 50m below the summit because there were too many other climbers in the queue). The Crameri brothers and both Sherpas summited Island Peak on 27 October.
