C2 at low C2 site
High point at normal C2 site.

Before attempting to climb Cho Oyu, seven members (not including Mecs, who arrived in Kathmandu later than the others, or Kollar) plus Pemba Nuru trekked onto the Rongbuk Glacier and up to the site of ABC for Everest climbers via the normal northern route in order to acclimatize.

The team's C2 was pitched below the normal C2 site: it was placed at 6800m on 20 September. On the 22nd, Pemba Nuru climbed up to the normal site at 7100m to put a tent there.

On 30 Oct all members except Kollar returned to their low C2, and on 1 October they went up to the normal site of C2 just to have a look with no intention of staying there. They returned to their low, except for Wetzl, who took his skis with him to 7100m and skied down to C1 at 6400m. On 2 October all were back in ABC.

They had already decided on 30 September not to attempt the summit because Japanese and South Koreans told them that snow conditions higher on the mountain were very bad.

Kollar was not really a climber. He went up to C1 on his only trip above ABC; he spent the night of 17 September there. He had not been expected to climb.
