The expedition was plagued by bad weather: 14 days of snowfall.

The three members and four Sherpas made their push for the summit starting from BC on 29 April and slept that night in C1. They moved up to C2 on the 30th, and went for the top on 1 May. They reached 6500m and then turned back because of deep snow under foot and "windy, stormy" weather, said Maass, and it would have taken them perhaps six hours more to get to the summit.

They retreated to C2 and used their satellite phone to consult a meterological forecast office in Switzerland. They were informed that there wuld be more snowfall next day and bad weather was on the way. They abandoned the climb.

The most difficult part of the climb via the NW Ridge was between BC and C1, where they fixed 250m of rope. There was a couloir and a steep mixed snow and ice face.

A helicopter picked them up from BC on 4 May and delivered them to Kathmandu.
