C2 at snowfield northwest of point 6743m
C3 between crevasses southwest of point 6743m.
1500m rope fixed from BC in very difficult rock climb avoiding icefall and seracs. Many crevasses below C3 and around it. Above C3 very steep ice face to summit ridge (East Ridge). By 11 am had climbed only 1/3 of way to top and leader ordered them to return because they would be too late on summit. Rope to 6700m had already been fixed in previous 2 days but now making more direct route to summit and face too steep to place a camp.
5th Oct 2nd summit bid began from C3 at midnight. 11:30 am reached East Ridge at 7360m-7370m, summit at 13:18, 14:00 began descent in clear but windy weather and back in C3 18:30. Kim and some Sherpas had made first summit bid also.
Route may be same as Swiss 1980 Autumn.
