First Indian Mountaineering & Skiing Expedition to Mt. Everest
Everest · 2009 · 가을 (3) · India
원정 개요
C1 storage only (never slept there)
C3 storage only (never slept there).
The expedition never reached the South Col because of continous snowfall. Above C3 at 7000m, four feet of snow accumulated. No camp was pitched at the normal C1 site at the to of the Icefall and under the SW Face, and the C3 site at 7000m, on the west face of Lhotse was used for storing supplies only (never slept in) because of dangerous avalanching. On 14 September huge avalanches came down from Lhotse and Nuptse into the Western Cwm, down the Cwm and the Icefall to BC. Climbers in the Icefall had a "miraculous escape," but no one was hurt and tents at BC were undamaged.
The expedition's high point at 7200m was reached on 1 October at 9:00 am by climbers from C2 at 6300m. They were members Baghu, Gurung, Jagmat Namgyal, Napishu, Ram, Sherpa and Shimray with Sherpas Lhakpa Tenji, Mingma Temba, Na Dorje, Ngima Dorje and Ongda Gyalzen. They retreated from the very deep snow and returned to C2 at about 12:00 noon.
The seven members and six Sherpas stayed in C2 until 4 October for the official decision to end the climb to be issued from New Delhi by the Director General of Police. But the team themselves had actually decided on 1 October to abandon the climb.
Fixed rope: about 3500m all the way from BC to high point.
