Cardell was sick with a sore throat and fever from 18 to 23 September. On the 24th she and Padial set out for their summit push from ABC to C1 and on the 25th they went up to C2. But Padial was very tired and was slow getting to C2; he decided to stay in C2. On the 26th, Cardell went alone to C3, carrying the heavy load of gear needed to establish the camp.

On 27 September, Cardell left C3 for the top at 1:30 am (Chinese time). At 4:00 am she had gotten to 7835m above C3. Now she was getting very cold, not feeling well, and not happy about being alone, so she turned around.

She stopped in C1 at 11:30 am to rest. Padial was here; they packed up and together descended all the way to ABC, where they arrived at 6:00 pm. They were in BC on the 28th.
