Altitude Junkies Everest, Phil Crampton - 31 May 2009

The team went for the summit on two days. On 18 May Crampton, Parkinson and Rogers left C4 for the top at 8:00 pm with Sherpas Tarke and Tawa Chhiri at 9:00 pm. At 9:00 am on the 19th they were at the bottom of the Hillary Step, where Parkinson and Rogers turned back and descended to C4 at 11:00 am with the two Sherpas. Rogers was nearly blind: the cornea in one eye had frozen, and other was freezing. Parkinson's toes had felt cold; when she was in C4, she found that five toes had gotten frostbitten (they will heal). Crampton had already been to the summit at 7:00 am, and he returned to C4 at 1:00 pm.

They all went down to C2 on the 20th and BC on the 21st. Rogers and Parkinson left BC on the 24th.

Meanwhile Westgate had left C4 in her own summit bid at 8:45 pm on the 20th with Chhewang Palden. They got to the top at 7:00 am on the 21st, stayed in C4, went down to C2 on the 22nd and were back in BC on the 23rd.

Bonner had reached C2 on 8 May. A blood clot formed in his leg and moved to his lung; he was down in BC on the 9th and left in a helicopter to Kathmandu on the 15th.

Oxygen was used by all members and Sherpas on their summit bids. The members were on oxygen from the Yellow Band (about 7700m) to their high points to C3. Sherpas used it in C4 to their high points to C4.
