C1 at top of Icefall
C2 in Western Cwm
C3 on Lhotse Face
High point at C3.

19 April down to C2, 21st down to C1 (Whetu and Bach) and others to BC. All in BC 22nd and Bach discovered big toes frostbitten, was put on oxygen and down to Lobuche by all members; Bach to be helicoptered to KTM for medical attention and all other members with him to KTM for rest; others back to Lobuche by helicopter 2 or 3 May and BC same day. Now bad weather; either strong winds or snowfall. Now Swiss acted independently to test their acclimatization and carry up gear but no one went above C2.

Hefti and Reichen decided 22 May to abandon climb because would have cost more money since contract with Himalayan Experience ended 3rd May, and in addition Reichen had persistent cough. Binsack finally decided 28 May to give up. Bach had paid for other members to come on climb to 31 May; Hefti and Reichen had left BC 25 May.

All 5 Sherpas had stocked C4 at South Col in last week of April but no one ever occupied the camp.
