All 4 members in summit bid turned back below the balcony while 3 Sherpas went on to the top. Crouse, Dyer and Gilman reached South Summit (8750m); Arnette and Lhakpa Tarke turned back at 8150m.

Oxygen: all members used it sleeping in C3 20 and 21 May, climbing and sleeping from C3 to their high points, to C4, sleeping in C4; Crouse did not use it descending from C4 but other 3 members used it from C4 to C3 on 23rd. The 3 Sherpas used oxygen in C4 to top and in C4 night of 22nd.

Crouse comment by phone on 31 May: the competence of the climbers this year was lower than before. "The Japanese team - not Miura's - were really, really slow."
