1st summit bid by Rhoads from C4 night of 15th got to the balcony at 27,500 ft because deep snow and Sherpas found too cold and also turned down.

Next bid for top left C4 23 May at 9:30 pm: 13 summiters and Hoffman, Bull, Boice and 2 Sherpas. Hoffman to South Summit and turned back because high winds and white-out beyond immediate fixed ropes: Boice to Hillary Step and then oxygen not working (Williams found him very confused, but Williams got it working again and he descended). Bull just above the balcony and there non-functional and 2 Sherpas pulled him down (Bull always had 2 Sherpas roped to him at all times).

Trash from South Col oxygen bottles (will be taken to US) include 2 from '52 Swiss) with probably 200 left covered by deep snow. Now bottles are standing upright in snow above Col left this spring and two rubbish piles at South Col left this spring by Bryan Smith and Christine Boskoff teams.
