C1 at North Col.

Maselko, Pawlowski and Kudelski: left C3 3:00 am NST for top and reached ridge quickly, very warm and no wind and excellent visability at 8:30 am 8500m at bottom of First Step. No real stops for rest - got to summit through deep snow above 3nd Step at 8700m. Arrived at top: Kudelski at 1:30 pm, Maselko 1:35, Pawlowski 2:00 pm. Met Brits and Portuguese on their way up as Poles descended after leaving summit at 2:45 pm. Maselko got to C3 at 8:00 pm. Pawlowski: at 7:00 pm from below First Step, an hour after wind had blown up, saying needed more oxygen and Sherpas to help him down as soon as possible, but Sherpas had gone down to C2 and couldn't find fixed lines despite climb from C2 from 8:00 pm to midnight, when arrived at C3 in raging storm. Sherpas reached Pawlowski at 9:30 am in his descent which resumed at 9:00 am 19 May. Pawlowski slept in C3 on 19th.

Kudelski fell?: never seen again but probably between 2nd and 1st Steps; seen rapelling down 2nd Step 4:00-5:00 pm on 18th by Maselko. Other members in C2 or ABC.
