* Other expeditions say Tortladze and Nemsitsveridze did not reach summit - Tortladze 31 May told me they went to top of snow pyramid just before last point on mountain and at same altitude; on 5 June he explained by phone they stopped 30m before prayer flags to take photos for sponsors but this same altitude as summit flags.

Russell Brice - 9 June: top of snow pyramid leads to gentle ridge into small hollow, then up again to another small indentation and again up - at least 40m difference in altitude and about 30 minutes climb/walk. Some Sherpas said Tortladze did not get to top of pyramid.

Cathy O'Dowd, South African - 6 June: Tortladze's claim that last 30m line only one at same altitude as summit not correct - a snow slope with perhaps 30m vertical gain to highest point.

26 May 2000 - Russian Everest expedition on north side this spring at sometime as Tortladze again there, said he told them he had not summited in 1999 was busy taking pictures.
