We approached the West Ridge via a steep snow slope on the north side of the mountain. I broke a crampon on the approach (jumping a crevasse with a rigid crampon on flexible boots) so I had it just strapped on with an accessory strap. We reached a rather steep step at about 6100m where I lost confidence in the rig, so we descended. Snow conditions were very good, I believe we would have had a good shot at the top. I climbed with Bob Harwood, who's now a lawyer in the Ketchum/Hailey Idaho area, and he's also the photographer of the Ama Dablam and Pumori photo-posters that hang in the Sagarmatha NP museum above Namche, and many other locations.

We had no Sherpas, just my girlfriend waiting for us down below. I don't remember the exact dates in November.
