Last autumn (1980), a "secret" American party was on SW Ridge of Himalchuli, same route as Japanese made BC at Japanese C1 (5020m) and reached c5800m. Could not go beyond c5800m because the route was very difficult, then tried another way to SE Ridge but avalanching stopped them before they were able to reach the ridge. This was told to Matsuno by village people and he found their fixed rope and nuts at Japanese C2 5620m.

Yager never heard of any Americans on Himalchuli in 1980 or any other time besides his own first effort in 1979.
