The Brazilians from 8K Expeditions climbed with the Brazilians from Himalayan Ascents. They reached 8400m of 22 May, but retreated due to high winds.


Report from Chhiring Sherps (Jeannette McGill, Expedition Base client)

Phurba, Chhiring and McGill reached the South Col on 21/05 intending to summit on 23/05. On 22/05, they left C4 at 9 am and when they reached the Balcony at was so windy that they decided to turn back to C4 at midnight and arrived there at 5 am. They slept for about 2 hours. Chhiring Sherpa descended to C2 as he was feeling sick. McGill was initially thinking of going to Lhotse which she had a permit for, but Chhiring radioed her from C2 and told her to try Everest again.

Phurba and McGill left C4 at 8 pm on 23/05. Reached the Balcony at midnight. Weather was better. They spent about 20 minutes on the summit and descended to C4 where they arrived at 9 pm. On 25/05, they descended to C2 and back to BC on 26/05.

Oxygen: Taken and used from Bergschrund to summit back to C2 by McGill; from C4 to top to C4 by Phurba and from C3 to high point to C3 by Chhiring.

Lhotse attempt:

Steve Hart was supposed to climb Lhotse. He reached 6600m on 05/05, but abandoned the expedition as he was not strong enough. He descended to BC the same and stayed there to wait for his Everest teammates.
