‘한국산악아카이브’ 내일 오픈
국내 산악 기록물을 디지털로 집대성한 온라인 열람 서비스 ‘한국산악아카이브’가 7일 문을 연다. 한국 산악 활동이 태동한 1900년대 초부터 발행된 산악 자료 1만2900여 종을 디지털화한 데이터베이스 플랫폼이다. 홈페이지(http://mtarchive.kr)에 가입하면 자료를 검색하고 다운받을 수 있다.

한국산악아카이브에는 구체적으로 국내 산악 단체가 발간한 회보, 등반계획서, 교재, 행사 자료집과 잡지, 신문, 단행본 등 매체 자료는 물론 공식 기록물을 발간하기 위한 육필 원고, 산악인 간의 협조 편지 등 1차 기록물이 수록됐다. 지난달 말 기준으로 수집된 1만4300여 건 중 단체 기록물 7000여 점, 개인 기록물 5900여 점이 전자문서화됐다.

기록물 중에는 평소 일반인들이 접하기 어려운 희귀 자료도 상당수 포함됐다. 1956년 서울대문리과대학산악회 태백산맥설악산 연봉등반대 파견계획서, 1960년 11월 부산산악회 월보 제1호 등이다. 아시아 최초 ‘히말라야 8000m급 14좌 무산소 완등’ 기록을 보유한 고(故) 김창호 대장이 스프링노트에 기록한 서울시립대학교산악회의 원정 일지도 확인할 수 있다.

이번 사업은 부산산악포럼이 주도하고 한국산악회, 대한산악연맹, 한국학생산악연맹, 한국산서회 등이 참여해 진행됐다. 한국산악아카이브 측은 앞으로도 산악 단체와 개인의 기증 등을 통해 자료를 업데이트해 나간다는 계획이다.

홍보성 부산산악포럼 대표는 “수집한 자료를 독자적으로 해석하거나 평가하지 않고, 기록을 보존하고 연결하는 데 중점을 뒀다”며 “아카이브 자료가 활발한 연구와 저술의 밑거름이 됐으면 하는 바람”이라고 말했다.

Includes rare 1900s bulletins, expedition notes, and mountaineering documents

The online viewing service ‘Korean Mountain Archive,’ which digitally compiles domestic mountain-related records, opens on the 7th. It is a database platform that has digitized approximately 12,900 mountain-related materials published since the early 1900s, when Korean mountaineering activities began. After registering on the website (http://mtarchive.kr), users can search and download materials.

The Korean Mountain Archive includes bulletins published by domestic mountaineering organizations, climbing plans, textbooks, event materials, magazines, newspapers, books, and other media. It also features primary records such as handwritten manuscripts for official publications and letters of cooperation between mountaineers. As of the end of last month, 14,300 items had been collected, with 7,000 organizational records and 5,900 personal records digitized.

The archive includes numerous rare materials that are generally difficult for the public to access. These include a 1956 dispatch plan for the Taebaeksan Mountain Range and Seoraksan peaks by Seoul National University College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Mountain Club, and the November 1960 Issue No. 1 of the Busan Mountain Club’s monthly bulletin. The field notes of the late Commander Kim Chang-ho, who held the record for the first Asian to complete oxygen-free ascents of all 14 Himalayan 8,000-meter-class peaks, documenting Seoul City University Mountain Club’s expedition, are also available.

The project was led by the Busan Mountain Forum, with participation from the Korean Alpine Federation, Korea Mountaineering Federation, Korean Student Mountaineering Federation, and Korean Mountain Book Society. The Korean Mountain Archive plans to continue updating materials through donations from mountaineering organizations and individuals.

Hong Bo-seong, representative of the Busan Mountain Forum, said, “We focused on preserving and connecting records without independently interpreting or evaluating the collected materials. We hope the archive will serve as a foundation for active research and writing.”
